So I know that I say that Pixie and Radish are my sisters but really they are my fake sisters - they are my sisters cause we all live together and have the same human Mom. But I also have 2 real sisters - cause we share the same dog Mom. This weekend at the race meet I got to see my sister, Raven. We are soooo sooo much alike - we have the same spunky personality and we are both sweet, speedy girls in small packages. Sometimes people say she is the "black bug" and I am the "red raven" - hahaha, people are so silly. They made us pose for some photos:

You know, I really love Pixie and she is my super BFF but she never wanted to play tug with me. I tried to entice her but it was no deal.

Today was Pixie's birthday - she is my bestest friend and I helped her have a great birthday by entertaining our new little sister, Radish. That way, Radish was real tired and didn't bother Pixie.

Stuff Is Changing

Well, apparently this is the weekend of sister arrival. And things are starting to change all around. First it was lots of things in the house but now the whippet mobile is all rearranged. Looks like I still have my same spot where I can watch Mom while she drives us to cool places. And Pixie has her same spot. But now there is an extra crate next to mine, I guess that is for my puppy sister. I sure hope she likes to ride in the car as much as Pix and I do. I don't want her whining or puking - that would suck. Here are some photos of the car and its new set up.

It seems the bunnies in our yard are getting smarter. They stay in the front yard outside of the fence and they hop around and taunt us with all their delicious bunny goodness. We see them in the front yard through the big window. And we stare at them and try to make them go in the backyard but they won't go.

So the other night Pixie and I were watching TV and we saw an infomercial for laser bunny-killin' eyes. We stole Mom's credit card and even with not having thumbs and all, we called up and ordered some. They just arrived. Last night we tried them out for the first time. Looks like they are working, now we just need to get the stupid bunnies to come on back into the yard.

My Mom just spent a few days in New York and all she got for me and Pix was this stupid photo of a pigeon. Umm - yo Mom - we can't eat a photo, so next time if you want to get us something from NY just grab the pigeon and stick it in your purse. Pixie says she will kill it for you no problem and she swears she won't make a mess cause she will just eat the whole thing. Oh wait, that means no pigeon for me. I will have to rethink that part of the plan.

You would not even believe all the awesome things that happened during my birthday weekend. I really wanted to post a lot of fun photos for you to look at but this darn blogger site is sucking eggs.

But I think she should have won a big, fat ribbon for having the most fun at the fun match. I mean why else do they call it a "fun" match if you aren't supposed to have fun.

Here we all are when we was super small. I really don't know if I am the little red one on the right or the left cause my brother Stretch looks just like me.

What I have learned from Bug

Tomorrow Bug will be 3 years old and she has graciously allowed me to take over her blog for a day. Here are 10 of the things I have learned from 3 years of living with Bug:

when in doubt lick someone
take pleasure in the little things like the crunch of an almond, a blade of grass, resting your head on a soft pillow
don't let anyone ever beat you out of the starting box
just when you think you can't possibly feel this much love for another living creature, that is the moment your love for them truly deepens
you gotta wear your racing muzzle if you are going to get to race
if you are not going to be exuberant then go back to bed
the bottle the water comes in is just as important as the water itself (and the cap is pretty fun to chew on)
nobody can resist a fully body wag
when you don't get what you want just decide you really wanted something else anyway
sometimes things are just meant to be

Countdown to my birthday

In just a few days it will be my birthday. I will be 3 years old. I can't wait to see what special dinner my Mom makes for me. My Mom likes to get all creative for birthdays. I hope my special dinner includes all my favorite foods:

I am an athlete

Yes folks - I am an athlete. And this being the case I need to treat my body right so that it won't fail me when I push it to its limits on the track. Many professional human athletes have personal trainers and all kinds of fancy stuff to keep them in shape. I have a yard and a Pixie.

My Mom has finally gotten a clue about what it takes to have an athlete like me around. Thus I have been getting massages from a super special lady named Mary Pat- you can find out more about her HERE.

At first I was not so sure about these massage thingies, I thought it might be a fancy human word for toenail clipping. But let me tell you, I was so so wrong. Massage basically means that you get petted all over. And at the end you get a treat. I mean how cool is that? Pretty darn cool.

i got an owie

I went racing this weekend and I got an owie. I scraped my leetle stopper pad. I didn't really feel it when it happened cause I was running and I was in the process of winning a race and beating dogs that usually beat me. All my adrenalines were flowing so I didn't even notice my owie. But when I got home all of a sudden, my owie was hurting me. My Mom kept going on and on about how if I wasn't such a dramaqueen and I would let her wrap my legs before a race then I wouldn't have gotten an owie. But whatever.

My Mom put some medicine stuff on it but it still hurt me so I had to take matters into my own paws.

Taking care of an owie is best done while sitting on the couch.

Pixie doesn't really have an owie but she is so empathetic that she pretended to take care of her own phantom owie so I wouldn't feel alone and sad.

Here I am once I was done taking care of my owie. I am trying to look very pitiful so I can get some extra treats.

Today started out full of happiness as I wished my Dad, Panther and all my Aunts and Uncles a special happy 6th birthday. I hope they all got lots of special treats today.

I also really enjoyed being an omnivore today - I ate wild strawberries, pears, blueberries, grass clippings, and a plum. Deeeelicious - and I still had room for my dinner.

But this afternoon, something sad happened. My whippet friend, Drambuie passed away. He was a good role model for me when I was learning to race as a youngster. His exuberance and spirit will be dearly missed. Run free Drambuie - you left us too soon but I suppose you get all the bunnies you want now and you don't have to go in that stupid starting box if you don't want to. Plus, you can steal freshly roasted turkeys off the counter all you want and nobody can stop you.

I know this sounds crazy but I think that maybe Pixie is my sister. And I think that I am Pixie's sister. Really, it sounds totally insane but I think that I am a sister and I have a sister and I am getting another sister who will be my sister and Pixie's sister and Pixie will be her sister and it is just a great big circle of sistering.

If I am right, this is brilliant news. I mean if Pixie is a sister then sisters are super cool to have around. And if I am a sister then well, you know, I am awesome. So there you have it.

Today seemed like a good day to kill stuff

Usually when Pix and I go out in the yard - I leave the killing to her. I mostly just munch on grass, steal blueberries from the bushes, jump in the air to grab plums, you know - just regular old vegetarian-type activities. It is so much easier to let Mom prepare the meats than actually trying to kill something myself. Plus when Pixie kills stuff in the yard, they seem to stop moving around and rodents are so much less interesting when they are not moving.

But in a couple of weeks, I will be three years old and I guess some forgotten part of my brain just kicked in. Cause today when I went out in the yard - wahoooza - GAME ON. I was ready to kill some shit.

I ran down the stairs and to my joy and surprise a cardinal was making its way to the feeder and it had decided to take a route that involved flying a couple of feet over my head. No problem for me - I can jump like a freakin' kangaroo on steroids. So up I jumped and snagged that red bird right out of the sky. Then I dropped it cause well, I will admit, I wasn't sure what to do then. But Pixie knew what to do, so she ran over and crunched that bird right up.

*****Even though I put this on my blog - people - please do not spread this news all around. I mean the cardinal is the state bird of Virginia and Pix and I might get in trouble. So lets keep it on the downlow.******

Now back to my story. Just a couple of moments later I was heading toward the crazy tree to dig up some worms and seriously it was just like that game Wack-a-Mole. This ugly little thing popped its head up out of the ground and bam - I was on it. Yep, I wacked that mole for sures. But then I spit that thing out - GROSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. That ugly little thing tasted like crap. Well not like crap, cause I like to eat crap. Hmm, it tasted like ummm, you know - it tasted really BAD.

Pixie came on over to see what was up and I was all like "Pixie I killed a mole - why don't you eat it?" So she picked it up, but she spit it out too. Wow - see it does taste bad, even Pixie wouldn't eat it and really, people, she will eat anything.

So there you have it. Today I went on a killing spree in the yard. And it was FUN.

Sister? Part Two

So I was minding my own business just lounging about as I do most days and I saw Pixie go over to Mom's desk and start sniffing around. I figured Pix was just looking for some lunch crumbs. But then Pix came back to the bed and told me that Mom was looking at a photo on the computer thingy. Pix said maybe it was a photo of a "sister". I really have no idea. But Pix is pretty smart so maybe she is right.

Sister?

Does anyone out there know what it means when your Mom says you are getting a "sister"? What is this thing these humans call "sister"? I have been talking to Pixie about it and we came up with 10 options -

1. a sister is some kind of delicious food. something that tastes like a combination of green tripe and bacon and almonds

2. a sister is some kind of squeaky toy that you can chase in the yard and carry around in your mouth

3. a sister is a crunchy treat that Mom throws in the air and expects you to catch but instead you let it fall on the floor and eat it from there

4. a sister is a new kind of bed to sleep in, possibly a bed that is even more comfy than the pita bed

5. a sister is a kind of car that you go in to get to fun stuff like race meets

6. a sister is a kind of ball that bounces real high and is fun to chase

7. a sister is a sharp thing that they stick you with at the vet and it hurts and makes you want to bite their face off

8. a sister is a device for cutting your toenails otherwise known as a torture device and outlawed in several countries around the globe

9. a sister is a plant that grows in the yard and has delicious unripe fruit that is real good for eating

10. a sister is some new method of blocking off the kitchen so that Pixie can't steal food from the counter and then share it with me

So some of these options don't sound too bad and if it is one of those then Pix and I are eagerly awaiting this thing called "sister". WE REALLY REALLY HOPE IT ISN'T ONE OF THE BAD OPTIONS.

But from the way Mom seems to talk to us about it, it seems like a "sister" is a good thing.

I will keep you posted on what we find out in the great "sister" mystery.

Why my Mom thought it was a good idea to have me put on this sweater today, I have no clue. I mean apparently my Mom's Mom (who is not my Grandmom - so don't call her that) made this sweater and my Mom loved it so much that she is keeping it for me to wear. But HELLO - put this thing on me in the winter. WTF - it is SUMMER - I do not want to wear a sweater. Oh wait, you are giving me treats for wearing the sweater. OK, I will sit pretty for the photos. No problem. Forget I said anything.

I found something stinky in the yard today and I rolled all around in it to make sure that my neck would be saturated with the stink.

Pixie wanted to stink too so she really threw her whole body into it.

Then Mom filled up the pool and enticed me to get in there. I almost fell for it. But then I realized, whoa, hold on, this water might wash the stink off me. That was a close call.

Last night, Pixie and I spotted a bunny in the front yard. We was vewy quiet cause we was huntin' wabbits. We didn't move a muscle, we just stared at it. Pixie was trying to use her super mind control to get it to go under the fence and come into the back yard so she could then convince Mom to let us out back and then she could murdalize it.

This morning, we woke up and went to check the window again and to our delight, the bunny was back. I spotted it first. Pixie was kind of busy staring at Mom's breakfast.

But wait, you are not going to believe this. Through some insane convergence of the universe or some other such awesome event. Not only was there a bunny in the front yard, but there was also a squirrel. Mom took this kind of kooky photo through the window. But I think if you look real hard or maybe squint up yer human eyes a bit, you can see them. A freaking bunny and a squirrel in our front yard. Oh happy day, happy day.

If I knew what cholesterol was or where to find it, I would kick its ass on behalf of my Mom. Anyway, since this cholesterol battle started, my Mom has stopped eating bacon. Which means that Pixie and I have also stopped eating bacon. Which really sucks. Did I mention that I want to kick the crap out of cholesterol? Does anyone know where I can find it? Cause I think Pixie also wants to open up a can of whoop-ass on this stupid cholesterol.

Instead of eating bacon, Pixie and I have been forced to beg for celery.

Humans have this thing called Mother's Day

Pixie and I have big ears and we like to listen in on stuff our Mom says to other humans. We recently overheard her talking to her brother about this thing called Mother's Day. Apparently, on this day humans call their mothers and send them gifts. Often these gifts include some kind of treats for the mother. Pixie and I are not mothers but we have decided that we want some extra treats today.

So in honor of the fact that we really love our human Mom, we propose that this treat-giving idea for Mother's Day get expanded to involve the things that get mothered by the mothers. You see where we are going with this? Pixie says we should write to Hallmark and get them to change the rules surrounding this holiday. I told Pixie that nobody cares about Hallmark and we should just make a proclamation here on my blog. So here goes...

On this, the 9th day of May, 2010, Pixie and Ladybug Smith do hereby solemnly propose that the day that humans call Mother's Day:

be expanded to include humans who mother canines
be expanded in such a way that humans who mother canines give said canines extra treats

We would like to further state that we are not selfish and we fully intend to provide our Mom with lots of love and appreciation for the extra treats she gives us. She doesn't seem to really like the treats we bring her from outside and we don't have thumbs so we can't drive to the store and get her treats she likes. So instead of treats we give love.

OK, that should do it.

This is my Dad - Panther. He has had a super illustrious racing career. This weekend he retired from racing. He will continue to rock out on the agility circuit - so watch out for him.

He is completely multi-talented and most importantly, he taught me all I know about being sweet and goofy.

The surrogate bunny

We didn't catch any bunnies last night and anyway, I never catch them - Pixie does. But today Mom made me a surrogate bunny so I could practice my skillz. Come on Mom throw me that bunny.

This bunny is plump and juicy.

Come on bunny lets go somewhere more private. This is what Pixie does so I will do it too.

Next step -- sink your teeth into the bunny.

Then comes that moment when you and the bunny become one. The bunny gets into your head and you get into its head.

It only lasts a moment and then you must give a good shake so that the bunny dies quickly. This is not about bunny torture.

And there you have it. A well-shaken, less plump, dead bunny - ready for eating.

Raw bones are good

Despite what the FDA or anyone else says - we think raw bones are good to eat.

And we also think the best way to eat them is in the yard with our butts in the air.

According to Pixie, the only bad thing about these bones is that she didn't get to kill the cow herself. I told her I don't think any cows could get under the fence like those stupid bunnies.

Pixie hosts a gastronomical tour of the yard

Hello - my name is Pixie and today Bug is graciously allowing me to use her blog to take you on a gastronomical tour of our yard. Apparently it is very popular for humans to take photos of the food they eat and then blog about it. So Bug and I decided to give it a shot. We got the human to take the photos and then I told Bug that since I am the real chowhound around here, that I would take care of the post.

First stop - behind the crazy tree. This is where Bug and I dig for grubs. There are excellent grubs back here. Great source of protein.

Here we are in the center of the yard. This is the best location for finding rabbit crap or rabbit caviar as some call it.

I found some today and here I am eating it -- YUMMM

This is the side of the yard and is a good place to find tasty grass to graze on. You can often find fresh young shoots - these are magically delicious.

Don't be fooled by the beauty-ous-ness of these flowers. They are not good to eat. I keep trying but have to spit them out every time.

This is the back corner of the yard behind the shed and this is where we catch mice. Not really enough for a meal but they make a nice snack.

This right here is the apple tree and we have heard that it bloomed this year and we cannot wait to eat some apples. Bug knows how to pick them off the tree but I might just wait until they fall off and get kind of rotten. I like them that way.

This is Bug showing you the spot where last year we caught a rabbit. WE really are hoping to get another few of those this year.

In this photo Bug is showing you the neighbor's bamboo. It is a very invasive and fast growing plant. Sometimes it tries to grow in our yard and we dig it up and eat it.

And no gastronomical tour of the yard would be complete if I left out the deck. This is where we go to eat all the bird seed that the messy birds drop out of the feeder. This is also the place where I eat the actual birds too.

Maybe one day you can come visit us in our yard and enjoy some grass, rabbit crap, grubs, and even a bunny if you are lucky.

Grandparents visit

Pixie and my grandparents are here visiting for the weekend. But we are not allowed to call them Grandma and Grandpa. That I guess is reserved for human grandchildren (of which they have none but that is another story for someone else's blog). I suppose it doesn't really matter cause, umm, well, we don't speak English, hahahaha and nobody in this house seems to speak canine. So really they have no idea what we are calling them. Maybe if they did they wouldn't like it but that is not the point of this post.

Anyways, they give us a ton of treats, spoil us, let us do whatever we want, don't discipline us, love us to bits, feed us from the table, and then they leave and go back to their house. When they are around we get to eat stuff we have never had before like spaghetti and ice cream. Sometimes we are allowed to jump in the bed with them too. So in reality they pretty much fit the exact definition of grandparents (you know, they are the parents of our Mom and we do get to call her Mom but she doesn't EVER call us her furchildren or furbabies - and I guess that is also a subject for another post as well - maybe Mom is writing about that in her dissertayshun).

Pixie says it is all "semanticks" or something like that. I wonder if we have these semanticks in our back yard? I sure hope not, cause ticks stink and I don't want to get bitten by any crazy semantick or any other kind for that matter.

Pixie is real smart when it comes to this non-grandparent stuff. Especially on how to get the non-grandparents to give us extra treats. Not only has she trained them to give us treats when WE come in from outside but they also give us treats anytime THEY come in from outside. Which really adds up to a whole lot of treats.

Hooray for non-grandparents or whatever you want to call them. We really, really, really love ours.

Bathtime?

So I was minding my own business last night and happened to stroll by the bathroom and...

Oh no, what is this? Mom is filling up the bathtub.

Do you think it is because I did this out in the yard? I mean Pixie did it too.

I don't want to take a bath. I like my stinky neck. That is how I want it. (stamps paws in protest)

I am getting the hell out of here before I am forced into the tub and have to smell like some freaking show poodle.

Well, it looks like Pixie and I dodged a bullet. Turns out bathtime wasn't for us after all. We can live stinky for another day.

Suicidal Stupid Bunnies

Saw a real live bunny this morning but that darn thing was outside of the fence. Must have been one of those semi-smart bunnies. Pixie wants to know where all the suicidal, stupid bunnies are. The ones that were here last year. I told her that she killed them. She just sighed and went to eat dandelions.

We can only hope that those suicidal stupid bunnies had a chance to mate before Pixie removed them from the forest. Hopefully soon a whole new crop of suicidal stupid bunnies will begin making their way under the fence.

Keep your paws crossed for us. We want to kill some bunnies.
